Sahara Davenport = She by Sheree

Posted in Uncategorized by blogwing on 02/02/2010

Last night we rushed home from dinner to watch the premier of RuPaul’s Drag Race on Logo. We personally are a bit creeped out by drag queens but this show is truly funny. We literally LOL all during the show. We think something is a bit hinky this season though. Sahara Davenport looks an awful lot like another reality star, Sheree from Real Housewives of Atlanta. We think Sheree put on a longer weave, stopped taking the hormones and entered the competition. It’s not like she has any place to live, wasn’t she evicted after the last season? You be the judge. Has anybody seen them in the same room? It’s the Parent Trap with Lindsay Lohan all over again, without the acting skills or British accent.

Love Bites with the Cast of the Vampire Diaries.

Saturday night we were invited to Bar 675 for the “Love Bites” dinner and after party to celebrate the February Vampire Diaries cover issue co-hosted by Armani Exchange & NYLON magazine. The party featured some of the principals of the Vampire Diaries including Ian Somerholder, Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley. Others seen at the party included Ty Ku’s Tara Fougner, AX’s Andrea Burman, Us Weekly’s Suzanne Marchese , Charlotte Ronson and a newly unemployed Mark Indelicato (Ugly Betty).

Lies Hollywood Tells Us II-courtesy of Kellan Lutz

What it is about the Twilight saga that turns the boys into big fat liars? First we had Taylor Lautner, claiming to not only that he is 5’10” but also that he gained 30lbs of muscle for his role in the Twilight Saga. Now comes Kellan Lutz claiming he put the stunt men on the saga out of work….

According to New York Magazine...They caught up with Twilight’s Kellan Lutz at the Calvin Klein and Los Angeles Nomadic Division event last night, and wondered what he enjoyed most about filming the next movie in the Twilight saga, Eclipse, due out this summer. “When I could do my own stunts,” he told us. “I annoyed the producers enough to be able to say, ‘I have three lines in this movie.’ That was New Moon. Thank God, I have more in Eclipse. But I love doing stunts, I love getting hurt.”

Well anybody who knows anything about films knows this is not possibly true. Principals are all insured for a film and there is no way a studio is going to risk one of it’s stars getting hurt or killed, let alone the monetary cost of shutting down a production for even one day due to a hurt star. With stunt men, if one gets hurt, you just put another one in his place. If by his own stunts, Kellan means walking and talking at the same time, then we are in full agreement.

When I look out my window I see Greasy People

This is the latest ad released by Calvin Klein on the Broadway/Houston billboard across the street from our offices. The model in the ad is David Agbodji, and he’s part of the new Calvin Klein Spring/Summer 2010 Collection ad campaign.  We are excited that Calvin is using models of color.   The ads are pretty hot and will definitely get people talking. Will it cause the uproar the 3-way campaign ad that was there earlier? We doubt it.

2010 Academy Award Nominations

Actress Anne Hathaway announces the nominess of the 82nd Annual Academy Awards. (photo courtesy of WireImage)

So there were few surprises this morning when the Academy Award Nominations were announced, especially in the actor categories. We are thrilled for Sandra Bullock and are rooting for her. While remaining one of the most successful actresses of her generation she remains, humble, sweet and down to earth. We were rooting for M’onique for supporting actress and were enchanted with her acceptance speech at the Golden Globes, but her haughty entitled acceptance at the SAG awards left us cold and we wonder if that will hurt her chances at the big show.

The real surprises came in the Best Picture nominations. If you didn’t already know, the Best Picture Nominees were expanded from 5 to 10. This is obviously a bid to get more pictures nominated and in that way some of the more popular films will get a chance. So instead of art house hits, nobody has seen, the normal movie goer will have something to root for. It is ironic that in this first year of the new system, the most popular movie of all time is also the front runner-Avatar. We were pleasantly surprised to see Up, The Blind Side and District 9 in the mix for best picture. But for them we are afraid it will be an honor just to be nominated.

Cipriani with a twist

Posted in Uncategorized by blogwing on 02/02/2010

So we’ve been Cipriani fans for years and consider the boys and girls there part of our extended family.  So we were very excited to go view the re-do this past Sunday for brunch.  Cipriani Soho Upstairs brunch is now being brought to you by the infamous Koch boys, Derek and Daniel, the same duo who brought last year’s surprise Saturday brunch hit Merkato.  The space has been re-done and in place of the old beams and raw brick, you get slicker banquets with fashion inspired wall murals and a huge chandelier.  We are traditionalist so we prefer the old look but this may grow on us.

What was even more different than the interior was the crowd and the vibe that the Koch brothers brought.  Cipriani Upstairs has always had a more laid back vibe and over the years we saw everyone including Jay-Z, Rihanna, Eve, Janice Dickinson, and Eva Mendes in the tight space.  That vibe has been replaced with an over the top Sunday-fest complete with boys in sunglasses, sparklers on the bottles and exotic dancers on the bar.  We’re not saying whether this was good or bad, just that it was very different. Although in our opinion, sunglasses belong on the beach or on rock stars, and we didn’t see any sand. We probably won’t be attending another one soon but will be checking the space out on one of the regular nights to see what that is like…

Lucio Salvatore in Rio

Posted in Uncategorized by blogwing on 02/02/2010

Our very dear friend and world renowned artist Lucio Salvatore is currently in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil working on new creations and planning his next showing. He recently showed in New York City to great acclaim and his opening was attended by superstar producer Clive Davis. If you happen to be in Rio next week, definitely check out his show. As you can see his artwork is beautiful, and he’s not so bad to look at himself.
